Global Warming: Truth or Trick?

I agree that Global Warming will end the life on Earth. I believe that humans are the ones that are partially causing Global Warming by polluting the air with greenhouse gases such as CO2, methane, water vapor, and nitrous oxide.
When these gases go up into the atmosphere they make the ozone layer thinner which causes harmful UV rays (also known as Ultraviolet Rays) to enter the Earth.
Now I know that all of you have heard this but, REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE! It may have gotten on your last nerves but one person can make a big difference. If we recycle one ton of paper we are saving :

  • 17 trees
  • 6,953 gallons of water
  • 463 gallons of oil (a non-renewable resource)
  • 587 pound of air pollution
  • 3.06 cubic yards of landfills
  • 4,077 kilowatt hours of energy

REUSE. Americans these days recycle upto 13 million glass jars a day. Now that's AMAZING!

If we REDUCE the use of cars and other vehicles which guzzle up petroleum, we are really helping the environment. Did you know that 26% of the pollution in the Earth's atmosphere is caused by vehicles that use petrol?

You see. We really can make a difference. 1 ton of paper! I mean if one town recycled 1 ton of paper we would save all of those non-renewable resources and energy. It's AMAZING! :)

But recycling is just one of the many things that can save our planet. You could always ride to school or work on your bike, walk, or if it's not possible to walk or ride on your bike, CARPOOL!

See everyone can really make a difference and so can YOU! :)

FACTS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING!

  • Did you know that in 2003 the average person consumed 850 pounds of paper. That's a lot! If every person recycled that paper, we probably wouldn't be in this mess!
  • Glass can never wear out. It can be recycled again and again and again.

All together we have learned that if every one of us can Recycle or Substitute cars and other vehicles to drive to their destination by using bikes and even walking, we can diminish the 26% of pollution in the air.

Now, I know that it's not always possible that we can walk or ride our bikes to school, but doing this SOMETIMES can help YOU save money and help the EARTH survive!

Thank you everyone and have a very nice day!

  2. ...polluting the air with greenhouse gases such as CO2, methane, water vapor, and nitrous oxide.

    water vapor? really?

  3. Yes, Water Vapor seems to be a Greenhouse gas too. All of life is just a delicate balancing act; see:

  4. Yes. Water Vapor is a greenhouse gas. It may not seem like it but I guess it is. here is the link that I got some of the info from.

  6. Hi every one, I have a suggestion to save paper. If we print on both the side of the paper then we can reduce the usage of paper by 50%. Anyways great blog. Keep it going.

  7. water vapor, hmm... more reasons not to take shower every day :)

  8. Some movies and news sites like CNN and BBC give good information on Global Warming, e.g.:

An Inconvenient Truth (documentary by Al Gore)
The 11th hour (documentary by Leonardo DiCaprio)

  9. Awesome job, Anuja! I had no idea you could save so much just by recycling 1 ton of paper!

  10. Great job for your first issue. Discussion on global warming could go on and on. It's the main topic on the news right now.
Just curious why you think global warming will end life on earth?

Really appreciate all the discussion and good resources friends have posted.
I am interested in deforestation because of the incredible amount of CO2 that is released when forests are destroyed. I just read that in Brazil they are paying people to not cut down the rainforest and teaching them how to survive and prosper by leaving the rainforest. I like to learn about solutions because that gives me some hope that we may solve this gigantic problem.

  11. I think that life on Earth will end because glaciers are quickly melting in the N and S pole and are quickly mixing in with saltwater. And as you know, humans only have 1% of the water that is on this planet. So, if all of those glaciers melt, we will die because humans cannot live without water and we won't have any water available!

  12. There are vast stores of CO2 and methane held in forests, in the oceans and in the soil. Before 2 degrees is reached these greenhouse gases will start to seep into the atmosphere. This will increase temperatures further, triggering the emission of more carbon dioxide and methane - and a dangerous and unstoppable feedback loop will have started. The warming of permafrost in Siberia is a major concern.
The affect of global warming on Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, especially Greenland and the Western Antarctic, will be devastating. The process of disintegration has already started, and will soon be irreversible. Complete collapse of these two areas would raise sea levels by more than 14 metres.
Trees will be under considerable stress, and whole species may be wiped out either by the heat or by insect pests that flourish in a warmer climate. This is already happening in north America. Bush fires will be more frequent and larger, each time releasing more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
The great tropical forests of the Amazon, Borneo and the Congo are being over-logged and tests have shown they are likely to collapse if drought lasts more than three years. These forests are the major CO2 sinks.
As a result, supplies of food and water will be greatly diminished from flooding, sea level rise, drought and chaotic weather.
Close to a billion people will be forced to search for new homes. This unwanted immigration will force nations to resort to extreme measures including nuclear war.
Continued global warming will turn our lovely planet into a greenhouse of hell for all living things as habitats are threatened. It has happened before in the Eocene Warming and can again.
